Philip Mataras (ar.io): Thanks for having me, Moonshine! ar.io is the first permanent cloud network and a suite of decentralized web services built to serve as the "front door" to the Permaweb.

Our mission is to make the permanent web (Arweave) accessible, navigable, and reliable for everyone. 


We provide the essential infrastructure gateways, domain systems, and routing tools that allows users to store, share, and manage data online forever without the risks of censorship, central failure, or recurring subscription fees.


📍 Key Features of ar.io


Moonshine: You’re essentially building the infrastructure for a permanent internet. What are the key features that allow ar.io to decentralize the web so effectively?


Philip Mataras (ar.io): We’ve moved away from the "rental" model of the current web toward a model of true digital ownership.


🎈 Incentivized Gateway 


Network: Our gateways are the "Input/Output" nodes of the network. Unlike centralized servers, our global network of 600+ active gateways ensures that data is always accessible and retrieved with high performance, regardless of geographic location.


🎈 ArNS (Arweave Name System): 


ArNS allows users to link long, complex transaction IDs to human-readable names (like website.arweave.dev). Most importantly, it "kills" domain renewals. You pay once and own your digital identity forever, removing the risk of losing your site to a missed payment.


🎈 Wayfinder (Access & Routing): 


This is our intelligent routing layer. It automatically connects users to the fastest and most reliable gateway in the network with zero setup required, ensuring a seamless experience for browsing permanent content.


🎈 Censorship Resistance & Immutability: 


Because we are built on Arweave, data served through ar.io is tamper-proof and ransomware proof. Once it is written to the network, it cannot be deleted, altered, or hidden by any central authority.


🎈 Open Source Infrastructure: 


We provide modular, open source tools that allow anyone to run their own gateway and contribute to the resilience of the permanent cloud.

Moonshine: How does the ARIO token function within this ecosystem, and how does it connect your infrastructure to the users?


Philip Mataras (ar.io): The ARIO token is the multi-functional utility asset that powers the entire Permanent Cloud ecosystem:


🎈 Gateway Staking: 


To ensure accountability and high performance, gateway operators must stake ARIO tokens. This "skin in the game" ensures they provide reliable data services to the community.



🎈 Delegated Staking: 


Token holders who don't want to run their own hardware can delegate their ARIO to high-performing gateways, earning a share of the network rewards while helping secure the infrastructure.


🎈 ArNS Economy: 


ARIO is the currency used to register, lease, and manage ArNS domains and "undernames" (subdomains), creating a direct link between token utility and the growth of the permanent web.



🎈 Fixed Supply & Scarcity: 


We have a permanently fixed supply of 1 billion tokens. As the demand for permanent data storage and domain services grows, the scarcity and utility of $ARIO within the ecosystem increase accordingly.

By leveraging the AO compute layer, we are enabling "Verifiable AI Data.


" This allows AI models to be trained and audited on permanent, immutable records, preventing the "erasure" or "rewriting" of digital history.



🎈 Ecosystem Expansion: 


We are constantly refining Wayfinder and ArNS to support more complex Web3 applications, making the decentralized cloud as easy to use as traditional services like AWS or Google Cloud.
